2nd Annual BoW wOw Coast Dog Park Party: A BARK in the PARK!
A Dogs Tale by guest blogger Yollie Yo
This is a story about A DOG. Not just ANY DOG. This fellow is a super active, extra social, insanely happy, fun loving, care free kind of dog.
Its a tale about cHoncHo (and his human guardian aka the dog taxi driver).
cHoncHo has been a full hearted Gibsons resident since 2010 (when his human moved their little ‘pack’ of two over here from the city). His human came here wanting a simpler, slower paced life for them both.
They had only visited the Coast once before (and LOVED it), however when an opportunity came up to relocate here there was NO hesitation. cHoncHo was just a curious, energetic puppy of 9 months when he moved over here. He was…and still is a puppy energizer bunny.
In the city he had a couple of favourite dog friendly places to hang out to help him release his crazy puppy energy. Once he got to Gibsons it was a bit more work for his human to find him doggy play dates. They got lucky though, as their landlord at the time, who also had a dog, told his human of a nearby off leash dog park. cHoncHo went to this place they called a DOG PARK… there were green fields he could run on, a forest he could explore, a VERY steep hill he could hike up, streams he could quench his thirst and splash about in, and dogs, dogs, dogs of every colour, shape and size that he could romp and rough house with… this place was a DOGGY paradise… he went… he played and he NEVER looked back.
Luckily for his human NOT only were there an assortment of canines for cHoncHo to engage with there were many other AMAZING humans (who also came to this place with their dogs) for HIS human to interact with. Together cHoncHo and his human have actually created GREAT friendships with many of these dog LOVING folks. As an added bonus cHoncHo now has a regular string of play pals and his human has some great friends to hang out with.
cHoncHo and his doggy friends played fabulously… Rain or shine the humans brought the dogs to the park to play.
This is the point where the story switches from being about A DOG (and his adventures) and becomes a story about COMMUNITY.
BOW WOW COAST
There was such a great little doggy community a bunch of the humans even started the BoW wOw Coast FaceBook Page: https://www.facebook.com/bowwowcoast (for the entire Sunshine Coast DOG COMMUNITY) to keep everyone connected, set up play dates, hikes, mountain biking outings, beach dates and share local information and interesting, fun tips from all over the internet.
Last year, when cHoncHo was going to turn two, his human decided to have a small doggy birthday party for him and his friends at the park. What started out as a party for one dog actually, to everyone’s surprise, turned into a resounding, well attended, super successful COMMUNITY EVENT, with around 50 dogs and their people passing through.
This year BoW wOw Coast is planning on a bigger even more fun COMMUNITY involved event.
The party will be held on Sunday, August 12th @ Shirley Macey Park from 12N – 5pm.
We already have lined up some amazing dog activities: a doggy FASHION show; COSTUME contest; owner/dog ‘LOOK-a-LIKE’ contest; many games/CONTESTS; dog trainer DEMOnstrations; all natural DOGGY CAKE (and a people cake); NAIL clipping; on-site doggy FIRST AID, pet portraits/PHOTOGRAPHER; pet BLESSINGS; INFORMATION tables from our local dog community businesses/rescues/services, kids FACE PAINTING, our local SPCA and much, much more.
We’ll have tons of PRIZES, TREATS (donated by our Key Supporters) and SURPRIZES too. All DOG lovers and DOGS (must be on leash) are invited to this FREE, COMMUNITY event.
It’s going to be DOG GONE (P)awesome!
